Exploring typeSmart

Learning Path

The typeSmart Learning Path consists of eight modules.

Depending on your initial level of skill, you might start at the very beginning, or jump in at a higher level.  Even experienced typists can benefit from typeSmart, if they need to overcome the Home Row habit.

Each Module is divided into Lessons, which are further grouped into Sessions. Any given Session only takes about 5-10 minutes.

Each Session has three phases - an explanation, the practice, then an opportunity to revise the lesson.

' Elaine' can explain the lessons for you using text to speech software.
Also the letters are spoken for you as you type them, reinforcing learning.

Modules

1. Starting In this module you will be introduced to the Direct Reach typing method, assess your current typing proficiency, and set your keyboarding goals, using the benchmark feature. typeSmart will then generate your unique learning path and now you are on your way to hassle free typing. The auto-path will guide you along your learning path automatically according to the results of the Goals & Commitment Session of the Starting module.

2. Comfort and Safety typeSmart software was designed to minimise the potential for RSI and other keyboard related ailments. Unlike ordinary typing tutors it directly addresses these important issues by inclusion of a comprehensive interactive module on keyboard safety, including posture and work habits, and avoids the awkward keystrokes inherent in the out-dated home keys methods. For reminders, such as the key finger groups, posture, relaxation exercises, click on the Guides icon on the navigation bar.

3. Befriending the Keyboard Learn the key finger groups, the foundation of touch typing, in 60-90 minutes. 4. Building Skills Learn to type words then phrases then whole sentences to quickly increase your speed and productivity. 5. Common Words Learn the most common words and phrases of daily keyboard use, a syllable at a time. No nonsense drills, only real words.

6. Fun Runs Test yourself against the typeSmart runner at any stage after you have completed Befriending the Keyboard. 7. Custom Sessions Choose your own target text: cut and paste your favorite poems, sayings, quotes, spelling lists, etc. 8. Becoming Expert Learn the apostrophes, numbers, and other less used keys. If you are an experienced typist, you can use this module to help wean yourself off the old home key habits.

View your progress record by clicking on this button on the Navigation Bar. Do benchmarks to determine your current speed and accuracy.  Many interesting tests to do. Return to the main screen of the Learning Centre at any time to choose a different module.
